JSA Development has announced plans to redevelop the historic 8-story Black’s Building into a Hyatt Place Hotel. The $57 million project will transition the former department store into “upper mid-scale” lodging with 130 hotel rooms, a pool, ballroom, fitness center, game room and a grand lobby with a breakfast area and bar. Also included in the renovations are 20 to 25 market-rate apartments and two to four commercial spaces. The grand opening is tentatively expected for early 2028.
The City expended its EPA Brownfields Multipurpose Grant funds to complete a Phase II Environmental Site Assessment and an asbestos containing materials survey, to help faciliate the project.
