The City of Waterloo partnered with Eocene Environmental Group to update its interactive brownfields webportal in support of community planning, infrastructure updates, and public access to information. This website is accessible at thenewwaterloo.com and clicking the tool on the top half of the page. This resource is useful for Waterloo residents, developers, and investors for due diligence purposes before acquiring a property.

The map displays the culmination of over 20 years of environmental work in Waterloo. Environmental reports include Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), Phase II ESAs, asbestos inspections, and lead-based paint inspections at targeted brownfields properties. These reports are now publicly available and are meant to provide transparency on potential environmental concerns at each property.

This project was funded by the City’s EPA Brownfields Multipurpose Grant and an EPA Cleanup Grant.
