Waterloo City Council approved an incentives package to help redevelop a critical brownfields site located at 300-304 Commercial Street. The historic former Freidl bakery building, constructed in 1911, will be repurposed into a mixed-use project with first floor commercial space and 12 high-level condominiums on the upper level two floors. The City will provide a $300,000 grant and 70 percent property tax rebates for fifteen years. The building is located in an emerging entertainment district anchored by the nearby Young Arena, Cedar Valley SportsPlex, SingleSpeed Brewery, Public Library, Waterloo Center for the Arts, and Riverloop Expo and Amphitheater.
