The City of Waterloo’s contribution of nearly $3 million in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding helped Grand Crossings earn the 2018 Audrey Nelson Community Development Achievement Award from the National Community Development Association. The organization acknowledges exemplary uses of CDBG funds which address the needs of families, homes and neighborhoods. Grand Crossings, constructed on the site of a former dairy equipment manufacturer and blighted hotel, designates 36 of its 68 apartments for low to moderate income residents. The brownfields project also received the HousingIowa Award from the Iowa Finance Authority last September.
